📖 Daily Gospel Reading – December 16, 2025
Tuesday • Third Week of Advent
🌅 FIRST READING
Isaiah 7:10–14
The Lord spoke to Ahaz, saying:
Ask for a sign from the Lord, your God;
let it be deep as the netherworld or high as the sky!But Ahaz answered,
“I will not ask! I will not tempt the Lord!”Then Isaiah said:
Listen, O house of David!
Is it not enough for you to weary people,
must you also weary my God?Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign:
the virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,
and shall name him Emmanuel.
🎶 RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalm 24:1–2, 3–4ab, 5–6
Response: Let the Lord enter; he is the King of glory.
The Lord’s are the earth and its fullness;
the world and those who dwell in it.
For he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
R: Let the Lord enter; he is the King of glory.
Who can ascend the mountain of the Lord?
or who may stand in his holy place?
One whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean,
who desires not what is vain.
R: Let the Lord enter; he is the King of glory.
He shall receive a blessing from the Lord,
a reward from God his savior.
Such is the race that seeks him,
that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.
R: Let the Lord enter; he is the King of glory.

Boaz became the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth.

(genealogy continues)Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary.
Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ.Thus the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations;
from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations;
from the Babylonian exile to the Christ, fourteen generations.
✨ REFLECTION — “God Works Through Generations”
At first glance, today’s Gospel may feel like a long list of names.
But hidden inside this genealogy is a powerful Advent message.
1️⃣ God enters real human history
Jesus did not appear out of nowhere.
He came through:
-
families
-
stories
-
struggles
-
victories
-
failures
-
broken people
The genealogy includes:
-
kings and sinners
-
saints and outsiders
-
faithful servants and deeply flawed individuals
This tells us something beautiful:
God works through imperfect people to fulfill perfect plans.
2️⃣ Your story matters to God
Every name in today’s Gospel mattered to God.
Even those who failed…
even those who made mistakes…
God still included them in the story of salvation.
This means:
Your past does not disqualify you.
Your family history does not limit God.
Your failures do not cancel His promises.
Advent reminds us:
God is still writing your story.
3️⃣ Emmanuel — God is with us
The First Reading proclaims the promise:
“The virgin shall conceive… and shall name him Emmanuel.”
Emmanuel means:
God with us.
Not God far away.
Not God disappointed in us.
But God who enters our lives, our families, our mess, our history.
4️⃣ Preparing for Christmas
As Christmas approaches, today’s Gospel invites us to reflect:
-
Am I allowing God into my story?
-
Am I trusting that God can redeem my past?
-
Am I open to becoming part of His plan?
Jesus came through generations…
and He wants to come into your life today.
🙏 CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, thank You for entering human history to save us.
Help me trust that my life matters to You.
Heal my past, bless my present, and guide my future.
As Christmas draws near,
may You truly be Emmanuel —
God with me.
Amen.
